Message Outline
Psalm 90:12-17 (NIV)
12 Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
13 Relent, Lord! How long will it be?
Have compassion on your servants.
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love,
that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,
for as many years as we have seen trouble.
16 May your deeds be shown to your servants,
your splendor to their children.
17 May the favor[a] of the Lord our God rest on us;
establish the work of our hands for us—
yes, establish the work of our hands.
Old Testament Story:
Glory
“Doxology: A short hymn of praise to God, typically added at the end of a psalm, hymn, or prayer. Derived from the Greek doxa (‘glory’) and logos (‘word’).” — The Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church, 3rd ed., 1997.
“Doxology is the response of the whole creation to the glory of God. It is the praise of God as the end and fulfillment of all things, the true telos (goal) of human life and history” (Worship, Community and the Triune God of Grace, 1996).
Question: What is the chief end of man?
Answer: Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever. — Westminster Shorter Catechism, Question 1
Psalm 73:24-26
“You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.
Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
The Presence That Fills the Temple
2 Chronicles 5:1-14
Summary
Solomon brings the Ark of the Covenant into the new temple, and as the priests place it in the Most Holy Place, God’s glory fills the temple in a cloud, showing His presence and faithfulness.
13 The trumpeters and musicians joined in unison to give praise and thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang:
“He is good;
his love endures forever.”
14 Then the temple of the Lord was filled with the cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God.
