New Day Urban Ministries

Showing Christ's Love to the Homeless and Urban Poor

“. . . I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”– Matthew 25:40

WHO DO WE SERVE AND HOW?

New Day Urban Ministries is a Christ-centered ministry that has been operating in the Grant Hills neighborhood of San Diego for 50 years, dedicated to helping the homeless and in-need with a focus on a hand up rather than just hand outs. We are not a homeless shelter; we are not a soup kitchen; we are not a thrift store. We are a ministry that works with our clients in a dignified way to show Christ’s love in action through our prayers, love, and devotion to the urban poor. Our services include a food pantry, clothing room, replacement CA ID vouchers, prescription and eyeglass assistance, bus passes, prayer and spiritual counseling.

WHO JOINS IN OUR MINISTRY?

NDUM is primarily run by a staff of over 50 dedicated regular volunteers; mostly from San Diego area Presbyterian churches, but we welcome everyone who has a heart for the homeless and a call to serve. We also have several opportunities for days of service as the need arises, for example, to help distribute backpacks in September and Toys for Tots at Christmas. We have teams of volunteers who come to us over the summer from churches around the country as part of mission trips. We also welcome youth groups, scout troops or any group who is looking for a hands-on service project where they can make a big difference without traveling a long way.
